Connect NMI
Take card payments through your NMI merchant account.
Set it up#
Create a private security key
In the NMI merchant portal, open Options → Settings → Security Keys and create a private API key.
Create a tokenization key
On the same page, create a public key with the Tokenization permission. Checkout uses it to collect card details securely.
Connect in the dashboard
In the dashboard, open Payments → Payment setup. Choose NMI, paste both keys and select Connect.
Test with a sandbox key
Use an NMI sandbox account, or test mode on your live account, with the Visa test card 4111 1111 1111 1111 and expiry 10/29. Amounts under 1.00 decline in test mode.
Where card details are entered#
Card fields appear in NMI’s secure payment sheet on your checkout rather than on a separate NMI page. The card number goes straight to NMI and never reaches your store.
If something does not work#
What to check
If payments decline, read the reason in the NMI transaction list. Make sure the private key is an API key and the public key has the Tokenization permission.
