Connect Paddle
Sell through Paddle as merchant of record, so it handles tax and chargebacks.
Set it up#
Create an API key
In Paddle, open Developer tools → Authentication and create an API key with Transactions read and write. Sandbox keys start with pdl_sdbx_, live keys with pdl_live_.
Create a client-side token
On the same page, create a client-side token. It opens Paddle checkout in the buyer’s browser and is safe to share.
Approve the checkout domain
Paddle checkout opens on our payment page, so its domain must be approved. In Paddle, open Checkout → Website approval and add the domain shown in the webhook URL in the Connect dialog.
Add a webhook (optional)
Open Developer tools → Notifications, add the webhook URL from the Connect dialog and subscribe to transaction.paid and transaction.completed. Copy the secret key it shows.
Connect in the dashboard
Open Payments → Payment setup → Paddle, paste the API key, client-side token and optional webhook secret, choose the environment and select Connect.
Tax and totals#
Paddle adds sales tax or VAT according to your Paddle tax settings. An order confirms once Paddle reports the transaction as paid and the total covers the order amount.
If something does not work#
What to check
If checkout doesn’t open, the payment page’s domain isn’t approved yet, or the client-side token belongs to the other environment. If orders stay pending, check that the API key can read transactions.
