Connect Shopify
Let buyers pay on your Shopify checkout through a draft order invoice.
Set it up#
Create an app in your Dev Dashboard
In Shopify, open the Dev Dashboard for the organization that owns your store and create an app. It must be in the same organization as the store.
Grant the scopes
Give the app version the write_draft_orders, read_draft_orders and read_orders Admin API scopes, then release it and install it on your store.
Copy the client ID and secret
Open the app’s Settings and copy the Client ID and Client secret.
Connect in the dashboard
In the dashboard, open Payments → Payment setup. Choose Shopify, enter your store domain (your-store.myshopify.com) with the client ID and secret, then select Connect.
Test on a development store
Use a development store with the Bogus Gateway to place a test order: card number 1 succeeds and 2 declines.
Older custom apps#
If you still have a custom app created in the Shopify admin before 2026, you can paste its shpat_ Admin API token instead of a client ID and secret. Shopify no longer allows new apps of that kind.
What buyers see#
Buyers finish payment on Shopify’s checkout and land on Shopify’s thank-you page. Shopify’s tax, shipping and discount settings apply, so keep them consistent with your store prices.
If something does not work#
What to check
A shop_not_permitted error means the app was created in a different organization from the store. If an order stays pending, check that the draft order in Shopify was completed and is marked paid.
Still stuck? Contact support with the store, affected page, and relevant order or request reference.
